The responsibility for ensuring compliance with Airworthiness Directives (ADs) lies primarily with the Pilot in Command (PIC) and the owner/operator of the aircraft. The PIC is directly involved in the operation of the aircraft and must ensure it is airworthy and complies with all regulatory requirements, including ADs. The owner/operator has a legal obligation to maintain the aircraft in accordance with federal regulations, which includes adherence to ADs.

While the aircraft manufacturer provides important updates and informs regulatory agencies of compliance requirements, the active responsibility for adherence is designated to those who operate and manage the aircraft. Similarly, the maintenance crew plays a critical role in carrying out the necessary inspections and repairs to ensure compliance but ultimately works under the guidelines set by the PIC and the owner/operator. Thus, it is these two parties that hold principal accountability for ensuring ADs are diligently followed.
